About the Author

Gloria Anzaldúa was a Chicana-tejana-lesbian-feminist poet, theorist, and fiction writer from south Texas. She was the editor of the critical anthology MAKING FACE, MAKING SOUL/HACIENDO CARAS: CREATIVE AND CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES BY FEMINISTS OF COLOR (Aunt Lute Books, 1990), co-editor of This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color, and winner of the Before Columbus Foundation American Book Award. She taught creative writing, Chicano studies, and feminist studies at University of Texas, San Francisco State University, Vermont College of Norwich University, and University of California Santa Cruz. Anzaldúa passed away in 2004 and was honored around the world for shedding visionary light on the Chicana experience by receiving the National Association for Chicano Studies Scholar Award in 2005. Gloria was also posthumously awarded her doctoral degree in literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz. A number of scholarships and book awards, including the Anzaldúa Scholar Activist Award and the Gloria E. Anzaldúa Award for Independent Scholars, are awarded in her name every year.

This was a groundbreaking work in its day and continues to be one of the top anthologies for women of color. Brilliant editing and preface by Gloria Anzuldua. A must read for both men and women!

Today, the growing ethnic-feminist consciousness has made it increasingly difficult for her to turn a blind eye… to writing itself as a practice located at the intersection of subject and history… no matter what position she decides to take, she will sooner or later find herself driven into situations where she is made to feel she must choose from among three conflicting identities. Racism translates the differences among us into RELATIVELY preferential treatment for some at the expense of others, promoting internalized racism and cross-cultural hostility. The POTENTIAL for unity is there and the POWER is tremendous---witness the recent Civil Rights Movement. For unity to develop and continue to exist, the distrust and discord ever-present among us must be replaced.” (Pg. 314) [‘In Alliance, In Solidarity’]“Chicana literary discourse, like most feminist discourse, is a troubled one. It is always searching, questioning and fraught with tensions and contradictions, just as is the creative writing arising from the same creative context. A truly Chicana literary theory would result from the attempt to resolve these things, to mend the rift between doers and thinkers. I think we would all agree that Chicana criticism and theory are still in a state of flux looking for a theoretical, critical framework that is our own, whatever the perspective… Perhaps from a more open perspective our own theoretical critical analysis will arise, rather than finding the theory first and imposing it upon the literature.” (Pg. 350) [Tey Diana Rebolledo]“The new mestiza copes by developing a tolerance for contradictions, a tolerance for ambiguity… She learns to juggle cultures. She has a plural personality, she operates in a pluralistic mode--- nothing is thrust out, the good, the bad and the ugly, nothing rejected, nothing abandoned. Not only does she sustain contradictions, she turns the ambivalence into something else. This little book has a ton of useful information. I like the way it's organized (by color) the author was pretty creative on that one. A real, in color photo of each plant and a brief description about the plant and where to find it. Leave it to the Audubon Society to come up with a real winner.

Love this book - my go to for basic flower identification. I live in Northwest Montana and so far I’ve been able to find almost everything I’ve wanted to identify. Easy to use and gives good basic information about each species.

Photos ate numerous, descriptions, classification, families. It's there. Great maps. What can I say? It's Audubon.

I bought this as a second copy to keep in our trailer along with other Audubon guides that I also own. Buying them used made the cost minimal. I like the Audubon guides more than other guides because of the pictures instead of drawings and the vinyl covering. I have bought several Audubon guides from several used sources and was stunned to get a couple of them that looked like they have never been used and they all showed withing four days..

This is a must have resource book for beginning to understand and identify Wild flowers...Although it is not the final chapter in identification it sure will get you started and is easy to follow and categorize. The images and corresponding icons flow brilliantly for ease of identification...Fits nicely in the Saddle Bag or field pocket of and explorer jacket and is very durable and colorful...I carry it every time I saddle up in the high country of the Cascades...to the deserts of the northwest...Photographer William J. Well, because of the "National Audubon Society's Field Guide to Wildflowers" (Wester Edition) I know now, to tell my children to stay away from the (poisonous) Water Hemlock which I always thought previously was wild carrots. Now I can answer their question and impress them with my knowledge at the same time.I would like to suggest this field guide to any of you family outdoor enthusiasts, especially fathers, so you don't get caught in the I don't know syndrome. About the Author

Seth is the cartoonist behind the comic book series Palookaville, which started as a pamphlet and is now a semiannual hardcover. His comics have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Best American Comics, and Timothy McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern. His illustrations have appeared in numerous publications, including the cover of The New Yorker, The Walrus, and Canadian Notes & Queries. He is Lemony Snicket’s partner for the series All the Wrong Questions and he designs several classic comics reprint series, notably collections of work by Charles Schulz, John Stanley, and Doug Wright.He was the subject of the National Film Board documentary Seth’s Dominion. Seth lives in Guelph, Canada, with his wife, Tania, and two cats in a house he has named Inkwell’s End.
