This was a good read for understanding the history of feminism, how it has been misrepresented, and in educating how we all contribute to a dialogue and a culture that should embrace equality. However, for the new edition, there was no update as to how to discuss feminism and educate in a broader sense according to our culture, social media, millenialism, etc. It felt old, stale and outdated in ways. And for as many times as bell hooks mentioned feminist education needing to be easy to read and understand, I found many paragraphs hard to focus on for all the jargon.

I have subscribed to Sampler & Antique Needlework Quarterly forever. Well, maybe not for that long. But I eagerly look forward to each of the issues that cross my threshold every 3 months. I read every word. The pictures are luscious. The authors are expert in their field. Each magazine costs about $7 (I think that was true even two decades ago) so the annual subscription is about $28. If you shell out just a little more for the CD you get TEN YEARS' worth!! So, so worth it. And 21 magazines (granted, they're thin as far as needlework magazines go) all fitting into this tiny space...well...it doesn't even take up any physical space because you can download the whole disc onto your computer and enjoy it at your leisure.I just binge-read a whole bunch of issues and what's so great about seeing it on my large monitor is that I can zoom in as much as I want. It's illuminated, so the text is easier to read. The close-ups I can see on the photos are truly lovely.I have a bunch of these magazines organized in binders (not binders full of women...binders full of women's art....) and a bunch of issues rambling around my craft room. Here, I can systematically go through every issue. Or I can zip back and forth from one mag to the next as I so choose.I have hundreds of needlework books and especially love studying samplers. I've been to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. I'm preparing a lecture on the history of samplers for a local museum. This edition will greatly help my research.Excellent, excellent product.

Sampler and Antique Quarterly has ceased publication, but you can get the first decade on this disk. It's not 10 continuous years, as there was a gap when they were first starting up, but it is a fine collection. The articles range in subject from textile history to needlework techniques and make it a dangerous time-suck, and there are plenty of printable patterns in every issue to keep a needle-worker busy for years.

Many hours of enjoyment looking at these past issues of the Sampler and Antique Needlework Quarterly Collection 1991-2015. Format makes it possible to print patterns and directions for samplers in past issues. So happy to have found it.

My mother-in-law asked for a subscription for Christmas, not realizing the magazine was out of print. She's thrilled with this collection as an alternative.

This is an outstanding book, especially for people such as myself who are unable to study Japanese translation at university due to time and financial constraints, but who would like to undertake an exam to become a registered translator through such bodies as NAATI in Australia.The book is especially useful because as it covers each issue or dilemma in translation studies, it gives specific examples and exercises related to Japanese translation. There are exercises to do after each major point, and I recommend doing these and actually writing the answers in an exercise book to maximise the benefit, which of course requires some measure of self-discipline. I have the hard copy edition and all the exercises are clearly numbered and their answers included in an appendix at the back.Overall, this is a very well-structured and comprehensive book which I'm happy to give the highest recommendation possible.

I bought this book because I have been studying Japanese for about 15 years and have decided to start a translation business. This book was exactly what I needed to get my skills up and has given me the confidence I need. The lessons are well-organized and easy to follow. I am going slow right now, but I anticipate things will start to heat up once the summer rolls around.

Good tips and examples of translation variants depending on tone and personal taste. Good for advanced, not beginner level translators.

So, while I've found the book to be pretty good and very useful so far, I've found a few mistakes in the translations, which is of course pretty worrying, considering that details are very important in translation.For example, in exercise 2.3 number 9 辛い　is translated into 'salty' where as it should really be 'spicy'. 'Salty' is usually 塩辛い.Another example is exercise 2.4 number 6.　アレキサンドリアは古い都です。 is translated into 'Alexandria is an ancient city'. But 都　quite clearly, in every dictionary I've checked, means capital. So this sentence should really be 'the old capital'. I've checked this with Japanese friends and they agree.There's the possibility I might be wrong, but I don't think so, and I'm only half way thru chapter 2, which is quite worrying. The author is Japanese and maybe they were a bit over confident in their English ability and didn't get it proofread, which again is hard to believe and worrying. However, I'd say all in all the book is very useful and you can learn a lot from it. Just don't be surprised if you have minor disagreements with some of the translations.

Do NOT purchase the digital version of this book, especially if you're a student. Considering how expensive it is, you would think it wouldn't contain such a consistent and frustrating error. Oh, but it does. NONE of the Examples are numbered. None of them. So if the teacher asks you to read question 7 and translate? You don't know where it begins and where it ends.I tried to get in contact with SOMEONE who could fix this, but I was told that there was nothing for it. It's not worth it, just buy the physical book and resell it at the end of the semester.

This is a good book, with lots of detailed information. However, be aware that it is specifically written for advanced students of Japanese. The book says it's for people with "advanced intermediate" or JLPT level 2 proficiency, and it's not kidding. Unfortunately, the total lack of furigana in the Japanese examples means the book makes no effort to accommodate anyone even slightly below that proficiency level. I'm probably at JLPT level 3 proficiency, and the book is just a bit too far above my level to be useful at this point, but hopefully I'll get there at some point.

I always get excited when I see that a new Lost World book has come out. Walton's books are always very enlightening and this time, he's teamed up with another great Old Testament scholar, Tremper Longman. They are discussing the great flood of Noah in this one and what the text says about it.The first proposition put forward is the most important one in my opinion. This is that Genesis is an ancient document. Sounds obvious. Right? We all know it, but few of us seem to remember it. We read the text thinking it was written to people like us with a culture like us. That explains our tendency to read science into the text.They also make the point that it's not God's purpose to teach us science in the Bible. We get a message about God's work in the world. We do not get a message about how the world works. The message transcends any false beliefs that the ancient culture would have, such as the sky being solid and there being a body of water above.This does not affect inerrancy. Inerrancy is about what the text affirms. The text speaks about thinking with our entrails, but that is not the teaching of the Bible. We do not go there to learn how our bodies work in thinking. We can learn some things about what to think and how to think, but not a scientific assessment of thinking. The writers also do believe that there is a real event in the past being described. We often make a distinction between the metaphysical and the empirical. They can be different, but for the ancients, the interpretation of the event was much more important than the event itself. For the pagans, that would be their gods were showing their will through the events. For Israel, it was YHWH. It's also important to note that with the Genesis flood, we have a divine interpretation of the event right there. We do not have this with events today. Sorry, but we cannot speak with divine authority on why it is that a hurricane or a tsunami happened. The writers also stress that hyperbole was a part of ancient writing. This goes on in the flood. It is no doubt that the flood is being described in terms that seem global. That does not mean that the flood itself was global. The ark itself is a huge wooden boat even by today's standards. One can look at Ken Ham's ark and think it's possible, but keep in mind that was built using all manner of modern technology. Noah did not have that. The writers also have a section on other flood accounts in ancient literature. They are there and while there are similarities, there are also vast differences. The biggest are not in the historical details, but in the theological interpretations of the events. These are the most important ones and yet, they're usually left out. The next section deals with the flood itself and in the context of the narrative. They show the connection it has to the sons of God passage in Genesis 6 and to the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11. All of these reflect on the role of order and the importance of the covenant.The final section relates to how to approach issues of our day with the text. There is a section by another author who argues about the lack of evidence of a worldwide flood. As with many scientific issues, I thought it was fascinating and yet I found it very hard to understand. There's also questions about how science and Christianity work together today. I agree with the authors definitely that we need never fear science. If it shows an interpretation of Scripture is likely false with good data, then we should really consider it. They rightly cite this informed opinion."Often, a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other parts of the world, about the motions and orbits of the stars and even their sizes and distances, … and this knowledge he holds with certainty from reason and experience. It is thus offensive and disgraceful for an unbeliever to hear a Christian talk nonsense about such things, claiming that what he is saying is based in Scripture. This is an amazing book and I love the way the author has brought about the connection between the Creation story at the beginning of Genesis and then the flood story with the understanding and comparison of the non order-order-disorder paradigm; ultimately bringing into the equation the Covenant which YHVH used to bring in a semblance of order once again. I am enjoying this book as much as the first one I purchased....The Lost World of Genesis One. I recently ordered The Lost World of Adam and Eve which also has gotten excellent reviews.

It is the author's position, not presented as fact, leaving space for independent thought. Very good presentation of facts from varying positions.

As a scientist and believer, I found this book provides an understanding of the biblical literature context and purpose. The context of time and place reveals how it was written for the purpose that we might believe. Science and religion to not have to be in conflict.

The authors of this book know what they are doing talking about. I recommend this book to anyone who wonders how to reconcile the old testament flood story with the reality that modern science has shown that there was no universal flood that covered the whole earth. For me personally, this book made way more sense as the authors teach that much in the flood story that sounds like a global catastrophic event was hyperbole. Good book.

Explains the similarity between other ancient cultures and the Hebrew origins story, and shows there may also be an actual history involved that occurred long enough ago to become indistinct in human memory.

If you're a reformed, conservative Christian and take the Bible literally, you will NOT enjoy this book.

The authors failed to identify the pre-biblical flood event as to its time and location. This is most surprising as both have been common knowledge since the 1930's amongst archaeologists of the Ancient Near East! The Mesopotamian Flood accounts have its Noah-hero (variously called Ziusudra, Atrahasis, and Utnapishtim) living at Shuruppak, a city on the banks of the Euphrates River, when his god Ea appears to warn him of the decision of the gods to send a flood to destroy all of mankind. He is told to build a boat and put aboard it his family and animals to repopulate the earth after the flood. He does so. After breaching atop a mountain, he releases three birds, in sequence, to test the abatement of flood waters before disembarking and he offers a thanksgiving sacrifice for being spared. In 1931 Archaeologists excavated Shuruppak (modern Tel Fara in Iraq) and found ONE FLOOD DEPOSIT ONLY, of a depth of 14 inches, of Euphrates River clay. This deposit was dated circa 2900 BC. Shuruppak was determined to have been existence from circa 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The archaeologists came to the conclusion that this was what was behind Noah's flood in the Bible. However, Noah's flood is usually dated circa 2340 BC by some conservative Christians, but no deposit of that era existed at Shuruppak. The Shuruppak (circa 2900 BC) deposit was quite local and did NOT extend to other nearby sites. The flood silt evidence evidence caused the archaeologists to realize the Mesopotamian sources were wrong in claiming the flood was universal and covered the mountain tops of the world, a notion Genesis shares. A second failing in Walton's book, was in identifying WHY the gods sent the flood. The Epic of Atrahasis gives the answer. The junior gods, the Igigi, have been tasked with building and maintaining irrigation canals to water the gods' fruit-tree gardens in the midst of the Edin (Edin being the uncultivated land about cities the gods built to dwell in). The Igigi rebel, for 40 years day and night, of no rest from back-breaking toil! They surround Enlil of Nippur's home threatening to kill him. They want a rest from gardening toil like he enjoys as a Senior god. Other Senior gods decide the Igigi's 40 years of non-stop clamor/noise is justified, heard day and night, over no rest from toil. So a new gardening slave is made, man, made of edin's clay and the flesh and blood of a rebel Igigi god to give it life. A goddess called Mami declares to the Igigi with man's creation that they have been set free of toil in Edin's gardens, and that the Igigi's NOISE has been transferred to man! So, man's noise is that of the Igigi, objecting to the hard toil in Edin's Fruit-tree gardens, maintaining irrigation canals. Man was created to end the noise of the Igigi and give the Igigi rest from toil as enjoyed by the Annunaki gods. The Bible is REPUDIATING this explanation of how and why man was created and where. The Bible denies that man was created to be a gardening slave, to give rest from toil to the gods and provide them with food from Edin's gardens. Yet, later, in the Bible, Israel provides twice a day, morning and evening, meals for Yahweh, at the Temple of Solomon, just like a Mesopotamian god. The Bible has God resting on a 7th day after creating the earth, the Mesopotamian flood account has all the gods resting on the 7th day of the flood after destroying the earth in the flood waters. For annihilated, drowned man's noise ends on the 7th day, allowing the gods to rest by day and sleep by night. Once again, the Bible is repudiating the Mesopotamian explanation for how the gods came to enjoy a seventh day as a day of rest.

As a suspense author, I don't get to read as much as I'd really like to. I treasure my reading time, and I'm probably a little too picky. But I read the first chapter of this one, and I knew I'd found not only a good book, but a new author to read. I'm really impressed that this is Cap Daniels' first book. The writing is excellent, the editing is professional, and the story is just a lot of fun. The Florida details are wonderful - I'm a Florida native, and he took me back home. I liked it so much I told my readers about it, and now I'm having fun watching them discover Cap Daniels. I'd love to take the credit when he hits the bestseller lists, but I can't. It's his writing that's going to make that happen.

It's hard for me to believe this is the author's first work. I'm usually too busy to read more than one novel a week, but I finished The Opening Chase in three days. If you enjoyed the late Vince Flynn's "Mitch Rapp" series as much as I have, I can guarantee you will like this mix of international espionage and sea-faring adventure equally well. A splendidly written story with plenty of action, intrigue, and romance. Of course in this world, romance may mean having your tongue sliced down the middle or a toe shot off, but that's the world Chase Fulton now lives in.

I have read pretty much every Florida-based action/adventure novel, including the entire catalogues of my fellow reviewers here, and I have to say that I was amazed at how much I enjoyed this book. It is right up there with the best of them.After reading so many novels of this genre, I'm pretty good at spotting the plot twists coming a mile away. This story however, had two good ones, and while I figured one out early on, another came on out of the blue, which was a nice change of pace. And the author does a great job of keeping the reader not-so-sure who's side the female protagonist is actually on. Great use of tension as we wait for that other shoe which may or may not drop.My only small quibble is that the last chapter could've been a bit longer with more detail, and that there could've been one more chapter dealing with the aftermath. But clearly it seems to lead us into the next book, which I am anxiously awaiting.

You will be hard pressed to find anything NOT to like about this spy, adventure, romance, thriller on the high seas! ⛵️ A first book for author Cap Daniels? I can only say WOW. The main characters are rich in uniqueness and bad-assedness (a word?). Chase Fulton is a baseball star in College until an injury kills his dream of the big leagues. After going through the five stages of grief, he puts his mind into becoming the best Psychologist he can be. But his psych professor has other plans for him. We meet Ace, Beater, Tuner, and Rocket 🚀 and Chase’s life takes a 180* into becoming “a tool, an agent of democracy, a guardian of freedom.....a hero, plain and simple”. When he meets Anya, the strangest things start happening, even though it’s “love at first sight” for Chase.There are lots of twists and surprises, a wonderful complexity of the storyline, and in spite of the expected violence, a marvelous joy for life that runs through the hearts of the main characters. The goals are achieved and the book ends kind of suddenly, but it is not a cliffhanger. A fascinating and entertaining read, so I have already bought Book 2!

Chase Fulton is a modern-day James Bond, or is he? At times the answer is yes. Other times, not even close. I’ll admit, I was hooked in the first chapter when Georgia and Oklahoma State are playing the NCAA Baseball Championship. I attended OSU back in the glory days. I didn’t exactly agree with how Georgia beat us, but then, it happens. Chase was the best catcher in College and was headed to a career with the Atlanta Braves until the play that sealed their victory. He was taken out at the plate. Sacrificing his body for the win cost he a mangled right hand and wrist. So much for baseball. Think “A League of Their Own,” when Dodie gets flattened by her sister and you get an idea. Or even better yet, when Pete Rose ended Ray Fosse’s career in the 1970 All-Star game. Now we’re on track. Okay, so what is going to do know. Well, at the bequest of his favorite professor Dr. Richter, he dives into obtaining his psychology degree. Richter keeps in own point and spends hours with Chase to make sure his progress is satisfactory since he has a hidden agenda. Chase finds himself recruited by a sub organization of the CIA. On his first day of training, he kills one of the instructors and deafens a second. An interesting start. Of course, the driver Grey, did try to drown him. Hmm. His first mission is to protect a horse at the Kentucky Derby. Why? Well, appears there is a Russian oligarch. Barkov who will win at all costs. During the race, his job is to watch Barkov for any tell me might be giving off. He read lips and notices the Russian say, “Shoot the horse.” He pans the area and finds the sniper on a water tower. He watches her line up and pull the trigger. He sees no powder or muzzle flash, only a red light exits the barrel. While that alone stumps him, he becomes enamored with the female shooter. This is where is gets a big goofy. He isn’t just infatuated with the woman, he’s head-over-heels for her. Bond never fell that fast! From this point it get a little ridiculous. The assassin, Anya or Anastasia is beyond belief in her stealth and killing abilities. She puts superheroes to shame with her skills. Overall, it’s a quick entertaining read. Not sure if I’m going to continue with the series.

I used this book to review all of the chemistry required for the GAMSAT. Its fantastic - easy to read interspersed with great examples throughout. My only dig is that's its a bit dry in its coverage of the subject. But when you want to get through topics fast, I prefer a book without much waffle, and this one fits the bill.

Paranormal novels are a favorite of mine, especially the shifter types and this story was well written except for one minor part where Callisse first heads out to find Meghan and mentions the Mating of Adrianna and Meghan, knowledge she should not yet have. I enjoyed many of the characters and what Adrianna's pack stood for. Really enjoyed the story and looking forward to reading more by this Author.

I don't understand the great reviews. It was terribly written. Bad pacing, run ons, barely any breaks between speakers and paragraphs(lacking indicators of who speaks) no use of any advanced writing skills, over use of because and explanation. Even the sex scenes weren't investing after the first one. Became too samey. I don't like writing bad reviews but I can't give this more than a star

I have to say that I have read several werewolf books and they usually run about the same, but, this book is somewhat different. I really appreciate the differences that this novel has. Charlie has the werewolves able to go rabid, they have “inner” wolves and the last thing is… well, you will have to read it.It is an exciting thrilling love story that really is different from the rest. This is a truly a different type of werewolf story and I highly recommend it.I have read all her books so far and she has yet to disappoint me, her writing just keeps getting better.

The plot was great. Character development was non-existent. Editing was sparse and uneven. Descriptions were sparse. Conversations were unrealistic and choppy. Pronoun usage was odd and confusing. At one time there were four she’s in the conversation and one ‘she said’ after ‘she said’. I was lost and confused. I had to reread the section several times to understand who was speaking to whom. But I liked the story.

I love this novel this story. It made me want to be in the world of Adrianna and Meghan. I loved the way you created the lives of Adrianne and her wolf pack. If only human beings could communicate, live life, love and connect to each other so easily this world would be a better place. I will definitely recommend this book to all of my friends who are into romance novels. Continue writing so I can escape into your extraordinary imagination.
