REWIND: When I heard Troy Cummings was coming to my son's school, I checked out his "stuff". It didn't take long for me to realize "Dang, this guy is good!" The better children's writers do not write down to their audience, they tell stories that a child will find something in at every level & discover something different each time they read it. We read this for the first time a few nights ago & upon a reread last night, both my sons were pointing out different things. As an adult, Troy's work feels timeless. His artwork reminds me of the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons, so clean and full of joy that you can't help but smile as you read it.The message: This book can be read as a simple A-Z story, but, it's even better when you use it to create a dialog with your child/children. We were able to talk about reacting to your environment, never giving up, why we help others and treating everyone with respect and dignity. Much like what we have, Arfy just wanted a family that he could call his own and with each letter he writes, the reader likely will be vying for Arfy to send a letter to them, in which case he would have no problem finding a home because every child is going to want to take him in. When I introduce this book to my students this school year, they are sure to fall in love the same way I did. Something tells me that I’m going to need to get my hands on more than one copy for our library.In this book, Troy Cummings is both author and illustrator and as you flip through the pages you will quickly adore Arfy as a playful, cheerful, determined dog. Here are some of the reasons I really enjoyed this book:The cover! – Our students love dogs and will be drawn to Arfy’s adorable face. Also, note that the forever stamp on Arfy’s envelope is a forever home (LOVE this!)The front matter – There is a collection of awesome stamps to start the book of varying color, price, and size.The letters – Arfy is a pretty persuasive writer. His letters are so sweet and filled with hope. I like the different paper that he finds to write on and the various responses he receives. Some nice, some not so nice…but it only takes one yes!The ending – It will melt your heart (no spoilers, so that’s all I’m going to say).The final letter from Arfy – Arfy provides tips on how to help homeless animals, including links to the ASPCA and the Humane Society.I can think of at least two activities to try with students after reading this book:Have students write a response letter to Arfy. Would they have said yes to him and invited him into their home? Why?Have students write their own persuasive letter as Arfy. What might they want to say that would convince someone to be his forever family?Have you read the book? What else will you plan to do with your students? Troy Cummings visited our school and read this book to the students at LVDS. This story is such a fun idea. The dog writes letters to many people in the community asking for a home. Readers will feel great sympathy for the dog, but love him for his persistence. Fabulous illustrations and colors!

Fabulous story about homelessness in relation to strays and about adopting pets that need a home. Great way to introduce a conversation with children about homelessness in general. Also a fabulous tool for demonstrating letter writing, a lost art for many young people. Teachers can use this for social justice, letter writing, persuasive writing and debate as well as innovation! Language is clear, illustrations delightful!

This story really tugs at your heart strings. Some of my students teared-up, but all were on the edge of their seats hoping that Arfy would find a home. A great read aloud to incorporate into a writing friendly letters unit.

A great book for a grandpa with a rescue dog--and grandchildren 3 and almost 5

This book is comprised of several short letters written by a dog trying to find a home to various people in the neighborhood. The letters are cute and clever and he also receives responses back from the people he writes to. Ultimately he finds a home and you'll find yourself tearing up a bit particularly if you are an animal lover! It's a good story to read to your kids and teach them about the issue of homeless pets and the importance of adopting from shelters! The illustrations are bright and fun making it a visually pleasing book even if kids can't quite understand the message yet.

This is a very sweet book. My daughter can get pretty emotional during sad scenes on TV shows so I wasn't sure how she'd do but she really liked this book and I love that there's a portion at the end about adopting animals.

This book was for my daughter to provide her test practice for STAR test and they did. It really helps them study and practice the questions for the real test.

This book serves as an excellent source for test practicing for your child! I bought this for my third grader who will be taking state tests this year and could use a lot of practice skills for testing. As a homeschooling mom in the state of California, this workbook works wonders for our home classroom and study time! It is close to the real test, or helps your child know what to expect on the real thing.

This book did an outstanding job of preparing my child for the state test. It gives clear, concise reviews for the test scope and provides drills for each topic. The problem items are very similar to those in the real test. Many test taking tips are given and demonstrated. I wish it had more pages. For additional practice, I found Beestar very helpful, too (a nice Houston community web site [...] My child scored fairly high thanks to such like-real standard test drills.

The idea was great...however many of the links were non-operational. Clip art is difficult to use at times....the allover printable paper is fun and I have just begun to use it. As I am very new to paper crafts and card making; I have read several books about the craft and thought this may help I was not helped much.

I have found that this really does have a lot of useful information, usually the most pertinent information from any given topic. It doesn't cover everything my Mother/Baby class in nursing school covered so I couldn't find information for every topic in here, but what it had, was useful. It covered the major topics atleast. Very good product. Easy to read and understand.

I have used this to review the material in my main course text, especially with finals coming up, and I can say it made a world of difference. Unfortunately, my main course text was about 100 pages longer than it should have due to fluff and repetition so having this to condense all those pages was great. Covered most of the topic areas in my main text so I could see what I needed work on to bounce back to my main book on. Some values and data were slightly off from my main text (or visa versa) but overall, loved it. The Straight A's series actually saved me in pharmacology too!

If your looking for ways to improve your grades in maternal-neonatal nursing this is an excellent source. Your grade will improve after reading this book. For me i found it helpful in passing my exams with higher grades. It comes with a CD for more practice in answering question. I would recommend this book for grade improvement and easy to understand course material. Many of the question will come up on school exams as well as your nclex exams.

Really helped with OB! OB was probably the most difficult class I took in nursing school. This book definitely helped clarify a lot of subjects I just wasn't understand in class or with my required textbook. Definitely recommend this book as well as the Straight A's in Pediatric Nursing to help with those who have problems in mother-baby classes!

A great book and must have for OB. This book helped me throughout the entire semester with 90% on tests and 1041 on hesi. Passing score for hesi for my school is 850 and this book helped me to exceed that amount. Only person in my class to pass with a "A". You won't regret this book.

This book is an enduring classic. It is packed with concise interpretations of just about any dream one could have. This is the go-to book for deciphering the meanings of dreams. I've purchased it twice, since my original copy was worn and battered from use. Fun to use. Filled with knowledge and insight.

This is my second copy of the same book as my original has been worn after 15 years of use. This book is the only one I have found that is not filled with horrible omens of doom but good indicators of where you truly need to reflect on in life. This is book also has most searchable words than I have found in any other book or pages online. This is a must for anyone who interprets dreams.

I was looking for a book on dreams that I read years ago. I thought this book might be similar to it. Unfortunately after reading it I am really disappointed in it.It is nothing like the book I had read before. Too many times the meanings are that you are going to come into good health, success, or financial gain. No matter if it is a good dream or a nightmare. These are things that you typically hear if you use a telephone psychic. (No I have not called one, friends here.)While I believe our dreams hold some insight to our subconscious mind. I find this book to be too cookie cutter with It's explanations. There were often times I would go and look up a symbol and it was not, even addressed in this book. I certainty don't think that I am the first person to ever dream of the topics. I am unable to recommend this book from my experience.

I find myself using it more than any other dream interpretation book. It is still the best. Sweet dreams!

Of all dream books I have used, this one has been the most accurate. All the ones based on psychiatry are balderdash. This one has helped me to understand my stress and even predicted illness, strife, and challenges in my life. It has allowed me to prepare and pray and even avoid making mistakes. It also has helped me to let go of the stress of difficult dreams that make you wonder at your own capacity to think such strange things while you sleep. Outstanding.

I had one since 1990 and thought mine was missing so I purchased another one. I could not see this book anywhere else. This is the best dreamer's dictionary I ever had. I am very satisfied with this book. Recommend to buy if you are a visionary.

Very disappointed. The print is mot clear. Most pages have blurry letters. As if the papers moved during print or paper sucked ink incorrectly, don't know. I had a previous version of this book which i kept in my other house, that one uses the same paper type, but does not hve this blurry print. I am very disappointed to be frank.

The authors and photographers did a wonderful job capturing the essence of the Old City's Spanish-influenced architecture, which were all inspired by the Santa Cruz District of Seville, Spain (Seville was the capital of trade between Spain and her colonies due to it's location). The cobblestone streets, religious buildings, and fascinating faces that bring this treasure to life are all here. Truly it gave me memories of my beloved homeland and a longing in my heart to return soon.Whether you buy it for yourself or as a gift, the book's great price and format (it's a paperback) are great reasons to purchase it. Once you buy it , I'm sure you will be longing plan a trip to the island and walk through time.
