I wholly recommend this for both trauma survivors and professionals alike.

Like Babette's first book, this one delivers! I have been a psychotherapist (MSW) for over 31 years, trained in many approaches including Bodynamics and Somatic Experiencing. This book urged me to look at my roots as a therapist; what I know, want to learn, and want to put into practice. Babette's common sense focus reminded me, we often get caught up in our trainings, and overlook the very basics of good trauma work. Her ANS: Precision Regulation fold out is very useful. Great work Babette, and keep these coming, and thank you for your innovative and rigorous blend of research and personal insight creation for practical applications in a difficult arena of medicine and science.

Excellent book on trauma. Very good examples and transcripts are given throughout. The author is a pioneer in her field, and this is a wonderful second volume.

This book got me through a couple of dark days. The story sucks you in.I've lived in Portland for decades, and I'm impressed that this writer from London is so good at describing Portland, Oregon, its streets, trees, houses, its general vibe, its characters both human and animal. Forget "Portlandia." This is the real deal. A homeless guy, depressed, drinking, takes in a lost, needy cat, and they panhandle, hitchhike, and camp out together, covering thousands of miles. It's a love story really. Meanwhile, the cat's original owner is missing her terribly and wondering if she's still alive somewhere, consulting psychics, having nightmares, worried sick. This all really happened, these are real characters.This is a heartfelt, heart-wrenching, soulful book, and the humor and wry observations are part of the soulfulness.(No wonder Pogues songwriter Shane McGowan wrote a blurb for the back jacket.) It's also a great story, down-to-earth, well-paced, drawn with bold strokes, and with clear-eyed respect for the people and animals involved.

This was a sometimes funny, sometimes sad and definitely educational book. I love cats so that caught my attention to purchase this book. Given the other main character , Michael , was homeless it gave me a view into what life is like for the homeless and their daily struggles. How a small kitten found by Michael changed his life so that he took on the responsibility of feeding and protecting her despite his many challenges. Good read.

This book reports a highly unusual story of a cat rescued by a homeless man and carried with him as he travels through Western states for nearly a year. The author has gone to great lengths to tell the tale from the perspective of the humans involved, and there is character development in the tracing of their stories. A great attachment develops between the cat and her human, and he is severely challenged emotionally to return the cat to her original owner when he discovers that she is microchipped. The qualities of the owner are shown with less sympathy, and it is hard to feel glad for the cat at first when she returns home. But she finally turns back into a typical housecat and couch potato, so she seems to belong there at last.What I hoped to get from the book was the story from the cat's point of view. We catch glimpses of her playing at the edge of the surf, sleeping in a tree for the night to escape predators in a national park, snuggling inside her man's sleeping bag to stay safe and warm on many nights. But this does not suffice to get into the mind of this cat, and I continued to wonder if the cat were actually enjoying living on the lam like this. Much of the book was actually boring, as I waited for some insight into the feelings of the cat, aside from her clinging to the immediate safety she felt being with her trusted person. Overall I found the book saddening. Was this whole episode in her life worthwhile in her experience? I would not read the book again, and I write this as a warning to readers who expect more about a cat and less about the life struggles of the people living a hard life like this.

I'm a guy and would never describe a book as "heartwarming". Well, guess what? I really had a hard time putting it down! It's a really good book and has lots of lessons.

This is a very touching and moving story about a homeless man, and the stray kittin thhe has reluctantly fallen in love with. Subject, and cat grow inseperable through their journy in the Pacific Northwest, and Califoria. Very moving, and touching, you will cheer for both of them.

This is a beautiful story of hope and love and how animals change our lives. It's a deeply touching story.

Wonderful. Uplifting without being sentimental. Not just another navel gazing exercise masquerading as a road trip. This book has heart. And grit. And wit.

Better than "A Street Cat Named Bob." This is my new favorite book!

I got this in conjunction with a trip to see the recent King Tut exhibit and it's been in heavy rotation ever since (My kids, probably like other kids, enjoy rereading favorites.) It's short but chock full of interesting details about the discovery of King Tut's tomb. I really enjoyed it myself and think it was well done. Reading level is likely 7-9 years, but the younger kids will enjoy being read to as well. It's not scary- really more informative and leads to an understanding that there is no evidence to support the notion of a curse on the tomb.

This is a fun fact filled book about King Tut and his mysterious curse (which isn't so mysterious) that surrounded the people who uncovered his tomb. This book will delight elementary children. It has lots of bright colorful illustrations. The font is big and easy to read too. The story follows the life of the young king and then jumps to when his tomb is discovered. It also shows how the Egyptians buried their leaders and how King Tut's curse appeared after his tomb was opened.This is a fun story kids will enjoy about King Tut and how rumors and innuendos can create a mystique around an event.

So, this is a cute Clifford book, but if you are looking at it to prepare your kiddo for a hospital visit, I can't recommend it from that. Aside from the fact that nurses haven't dressed the way the nurse in here is dressed for decades, she uses a mercury thermometer, which good golly, you probably don't want to get me started on, but needless to say, your child is probably never going to encounter one of those in a hospital setting at this point in time. And other then showing a stethoscope and a shot, there really isn't much actually included in this book that a hospital patient is likely to encounter.Most of the book is devoted to Clifford's mishaps as he sneaks along with Emily Elizabeth and her mom to visit Grandma. And as that sneaking part would suggest, this is a book where he is still a teeny, tiny puppy (the runt of his litter), and he wasn't supposed to be there. And being that this is a Clifford book, he does cause a few problems along the way, but goes on in the end to turn that into something beautiful and positive, as Clifford when he's bigger goes to the hospital to cheer people up. Which is why I still recommend this book. I think it is a great message for any child to internalize who is struggling to pull things off the way they want to, or even the way they see other kids doing because of their size or abilities, that they can go on to make positive contributions. It's especially important for children like my son, who lives in a world that because of his disabilities finds a way to tell him nearly every day it doesn't have a place for him. But I believe there is a place for him, just like Clifford finds there is a place for him despite his own gargantuan size.

My Kids love the clifford series and are in love with everybook, this one came just in time for bedtime stories, great easy read for kids to follow, I'm glad I bought it.

My son loves Clifford, we read these stories daily before going to sleep, it's educational at the same time, he began to say full sentences after reading Clifford stories for several times.

the book itself is probably great, but something is wrong with this *e*book in particular- it will not successfully download on my ipad, iphone, or kindle 3g. bought a hundred books before, and several after just fine from Amazon. Just not this one.Amazon email support has told me they need to work with me in a chat session which i have not had time to do, so your milage may vary, but i definitely had a disappointed kid with this one.

My children and I loved this story about Clifford the small red puppy! My daughter Bridget says: I love to read Clifford books, they are some of my favorites.

Kids loved it, we will be reading it every night. Stupid of kindle to make me write a review before reading it.

Very entertaining for a 3 year old. The story line and pictures are very easy to understand. We will definitly down load more.

Jonathan Corbet got his first look at the BSD Unix source back in 1981, when an instructor at the University of Colorado let him "fix" the paging algorithm. I bought this book specifically to learn how to write a block device driver for CentOS 6.3 / RHEL 6.3Alas, Linux has moved on since the 3rd edition was printed (2009) and kernel functions used in the example code, like elv_next_request(), or macros like blk_fs_request(), have since been *removed* from Linux, rendering this book somewhat obsolete.For my driver, I need worker threads, and these can be implemented by means of workqueues.Workqueues are a very important tool for the driver writer - basically, they are the kernel equivalent of user-space pthreads. If you want your driver to do things in parallel, you pretty much have to use workqueues.Unfortunately, while there is a section on workqueues in this book, this section is rather short - just a few pages long.All in all, this book did not meet my expectations.

This book is not about how a driver works. It's about Linux-specific APIs to write drivers. Don't expect more than that.This book has a description of all you need to write drivers for Linux, assuming you have written drivers for other OSes or bare metal before.Beware of two things:- This book is not up to date with the fast-changing Linux kernel, however, most differences with recent kernels can easily be overcame;- The exact same content can be found online for free, legally. I just like having a paper copy for reference.

Maybe I'm just a dummy, but I found this book pretty hard going. I needed to modify a Linux USB device driver and honestly found the material on-line (including Greg's videos) more helpful. If you are prepared to read thru and need to become a Linux device driver expert, this is probably the book for you. I did not find it to be all that helpful as a quick reference.I hope some day to have time to go back and read it from cover to cover... then i might know one-tenth of what its authors know about Linux.

still the best Linux driver book, but very dated at this point, and on some DMA topics, inaccurate. Overall still the best. badly needs a new updated addition.

If you have "written" drivers before for just about any Unix, Android, VMS, or Windows system, you will find the book an easy read and informative. It will give you enough information to write a driver for your needs "if you understand how the device and its hardware interface operate (i.e. interrupts, DMA, critical/non-critical sequences, etc." In short you need to understand the hardware states to be successful with this book.

If you have experience writing drivers for microcontrollers or similar kinds of non-OS environments, this is the book you need. While certainly outdated, it gives you enough information to take your hardware experience and get a decent driver off the ground. Thankfully this book keeps a list of any out of date information since the book's publishing, and the only information about char drivers that was flat-out obsolete was a quick Google search away.I'm looking forward to the 4th edition, which is due out later this year. I'll definitely buy it to keep around as a reference.

Great book, I can't wait for the 4th edition. It is also an open-source book freely available online, but you want to have the print version as well.
