Not a book about how they developed songs! The printed lyrics are mostly just the final versions written (usually) in their handwriting for fans. I went to college and read books on how the famous poems developed over time, lines were crossed out, rewritten, polished, which teaches you how to write better. This is not that kind of book. Just an ordinary Beatles tome, there are others much much better!

Of the scores of authors who have published books about the Beatles, Hunter Davies is the best. His 1968 "Authorized Biography"is by far the most accurate and accessible account of the years prior to The White Album. His access to the band, their manager (to whom the book is dedicated), their producer (Sir George Martin), and their friends and associates, results in (a) accuracy and (b) first-person immediacy. His writing is clear. His research is impeccable. Who better to tell the origin tales behind the songs?One of the delights of this tome is that it can be opened to any page with certainty that what one finds there is both interesting and fun. It can be read front-to-back, or the reverse, or just starting from the middle, if what interests you primarily are the songs.If, like me, you like to know context and background, the traditional approach -- begin at the beginning -- is probably best. But if (like me) you have loved the Beatles for 52 years, just pick up the book, let it fall open where it may, and enjoy!

I have read several Beatles books and read this one expecting to learn a bit of the story behind Beatles songs. The book exceeded my expectations as it turned out to be a chronologically-structured biography. I particularly appreciated the insight (via witness account) of how songs were written. You can clearly envision the Beatles creative process (if you could use the word “process”).

Excellent read for any Beatles fan. Mr. Davies collection of personal experiences, manuscripts, hand written lyrics, etc, all make this a very interesting read. Easily look up a song you are curious about, or read through like a book, and the author does a fantastic job of telling a fluid story of the Beatles history.

There are hundreds of books about the Beatles, but this one is so different and shows actual notes from the band coming up with songs. A great gift for any Beatles fan- i promise it’s different from what they already have!

We're very particular about our child's spiritual education. This book is excellent to teach preschoolers a straightforward synopsis of the Bible's Easter story and its significance. It's written on a child's level, but doesn't get caught up in cutesy stuff that would detract from the gravity of the story. It even includes scenes not usually covered in children's books, like Palm Sunday, washing the disciples' feet, praying in the garden, and appearing to the disciples after resurrection. I love that it 1. teaches who Jesus is and what he did, 2. pairs nicely with sermons/lessons leading up to and after Easter, 3. doesn't shy away from talk of death, but isn't scary, 4. devotes several pages to the resurrection and new life (that is the point, after all).I'll be looking for more from this publisher. I'd love suggestions for similar books.

I wanted an Easter story to read to my 18 month old son that wasn't overly complicated or frightening, and this book fits the bill. It's got very pretty, colorful illustrations and sturdy board book pages, so there is no worry about his ripping or damaging it. The story is simple, as it should be for such a young child, and when discussing the crucifixion you just see three crosses in shadow in the background. It was a great way to introduce the Easter story to my son in words he kind of understands and to at least make him realize there is more to Easter than just egg hunts and the Easter bunny. This has been put away on his book shelf for now, but I'm looking forward to bring it back out around Easter of 2017, when he'll be about 2.5 and able to understand a bit more of the story.

I teach second grade at a Lutheran school and I got this book so I could use it as part of my lesson about Easter, but now that my daughter is 3, I plan on reading it with her this upcoming Easter so that I can explain what Easter is really about, not just the Easter bunny, chocolates, and Easter baskets. I love that the author keeps the text short on each page and quickly summarizes the Easter story in a way that is understandable to children and is suitable for their attention spans. It touches on some miracles Jesus did, how he chose his disciples, that some people didn't want to hear about God, the events of Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, Jesus' arrest, and crucifixion. I like that it states Jesus was sent to die, but doesn't get into gory detail that would be frightening to children or graphic. It explains how Jesus rose on the third day and that who believes in Him has eternal life. Understand that it's a quick summary and is more intended for children 3-7 years old, so older children would probably like more detail than what is given here.The illustrations are beautifully done in what looks like watercolor and have a lot of details in them. I highly recommend this book for parents to explain the real meaning of Easter in a summarized, kid friendly way to young children!

I wanted a book to share with my nieces (ages 6, 4, and 2) the real story of Easter admist all of the bunnies and fluff. I was a little hesitant to buy a book online without seeing it first, but this was a perfect buy. I wanted to find a children's book that was in line with Scripture and was age appropriate. This was perfect. Highly recommend.

I like everything about the presentation of the Easter story except for the end. It says Jesus died so we "will" all go to Heaven instead of we "can" all go to Heaven. It glosses over the need to accept Jesus as your Savior. But it is the best Easter book for toddlers that I've found so far, and it is so much better than making Easter all about bunnies, ducks, and eggs.

I have read many Easter books for children over the past several years and this one remains my favorite. It tells the biblical story in a positive way, not denying that some people didn't like Jesus or that Jesus died. The pictures show Jesus carrying the cross--at a little distance--but not on the cross, and there is no mention of the trial and whipping of Jesus. There is a lovely picture of Jesus with children after the resurrection. I have bought many copies of this book for my grandchildren and other young children in my life. And I am buying more!

EXCELLENT FOR VERY YOUNG READERS. MY FIVE YEAR OLD GRANDSON READ IT TO ME. DISCIPLE WAS THE ONLY WORD HE STUMBLED OVER. IT TELLS THE STORY WITHOUT BURDENING VERY YOUNG CHILDREN WITH MORE THAN THEY NEED TO KNOW AS YET.

My 2.5 year old daughter loves this book. We bought it so we could read it a lot leading up to Easter and really talk about what Easter really means. Simple language, cute pictures, accurate message. Some concepts are a little complex for a two year old but she stills loves it and will be able to learn more about Jesus from this book as she gets older. Overall, I am glad we were able to find a story that shares the true joy of Easter!

The author then explains very well how to use the lessons from Elon Musk in our lives. The reader can greatly benefit from reading this book. If they do a small portion of the things Elon Musk does, I think they can improve themselves.

It is aways interesting to read books about how some successful person came to accomplish what most of us never will. And if I happen to discover even one helpful tip or habit I can incorporate into my own life while reading along, I consider that book well worth my time. On the other hand, if I find several things to grab hold of that actually make a difference in my life, I like to tell everyone about it. The Elon Musk Method by Randy Kirk is this kind of book. But there is a surprise in it.Randy Kirk has a gift for taking a complicated subject and distilling it down to easy-to-understand principles that get results. He not only convinces--but encourages--the reader that by practicing even a fraction of The Elon Musk Method, their own business will be increased. The surprise is that you actually come away believing it. I found this extremely exciting. Instead, you can pick and choose the practices and philosophies that apply to your business. The only thing I did not like was the slightly misogynic comments he presented from a religious organization, Promise Keepers. It was suggested that men and women should not travel together on business unless chaperoned. Apparently the risk of male temptation is more significant than the risk of shutting women off from business insights gained through conversation with their peers. Burqua anyone? However, this was just one flaw in the book. The rest of it was well worth the read. As an independent consultant myself since 2003, the book's recommendations ring true.

I was introduced to this book in Bible College in 1965. What a fantastic and thorough book historically, archeologically and scripturally! It is easy reading and sheds light on Old Testament places that helps you to find them in our modern world maps too. I think this is an excellent source of reference for young Bible students as well as the seasoned students. It is also wonderful, too, that this edition is also available for e-readers. But it is hard to replace an actual in-hand hard copy. Great buy!

Probably one of the best bible study works you can find. It has been around for decades and continues after more than 80 years to be a unsurpassed bible study resource. The new edition in digital form is wonderful and the illustrations of bible geography is very informative.I highly recommend this classic.

Bought this as a gift as I love mine. Great resource to accompany your Bible reading. Especially love all the info on the Messianic prophecies. Love that Halley used his long train ride to and from work to memorize the Bible!

Love the compactness of this handbook. It summarizes scripture at a high level, gives additional information such as maps, archeological findings, and general information. It is a new "go to" book for me when I study scriptures.

This is a wonderful resource book. But do not buy it in kindle format. They've done a horrible job converting it. They have not put in enough hotlinks to make it easily navigable. Buy it in hardcover.

I'll skip the details of the story and its writing, as other reviewers can attest to the quality of the book. Instead, I want to comment on how this book has the power to change a child's behavior and make him love books.I was first introduced to this book almost 35 years ago. As a recently immigrated child having difficulties adjusting to the school, I got into a great deal of trouble for acting out in the classroom.A kind teacher who saw my potential assigned the book to me during a parent-teacher conference. It made a huge impact on me -- it might seem like hyperbole, but this book may well have shaped my life. It instilled a great hunger for reading, and a love of learning.Over the years, I had forgotten the details of the story, but not its broad outlines. Two of the (to me) central themes: engineering and self-sufficiency, sticks with me to this day.I now have my own kids. I have been increasingly concerned that the older one had not yet developed a sufficient interest in reading. I tried to get them started on this book, but was initially met with indifference when I tried to read the opening chapter to them. My wife did not back me up on this at first, either.But I persisted, and after a couple more tries, reading little by little at first before bedtime, I got the boys interested in the story. The real breakthrough came a few chapters in, when the boys begged to keep going. By the time we finished the book, they were fully absorbed into the book - there were nights when I (or my wife, who had also gotten into the book) were reading for nearly an hour! Some nights, we simply read it out to them. Other nights, the boys stayed up to read the words along with us.They have now asked to have other long-form stories. I think the boys have now graduated from short 10-page picture books.One of the best part of all this came this morning, about two weeks after we had finished the book. The boys aunt and cousins came over to visit, and the older one excitedly shared this book, reading it out to his aunt!

I grew up with the animated film from the early 80’s and picked up the book in grade school, but declined due to “not being like the movie”...years later as an adult, I appreciate the Book way more than the movie. The book is a more in depth story that Don Bluth changed quite a bit in the film. (Still enjoy the film, but not as much as the book!) This Book is a treasured gem for all ages whether young or old or for the young at heart!!:)

I had heard of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, but somehow got through my childhood without ever having read it. My 11 –year and 9-year old sons were reading it for their youth book club this last month. I read it with 9-year old Daniel in the evenings using the flip-flop technique. I would read a page and then he would read one.Mrs. Frisby is a widowed mouse with four young children living in a field. Her youngest son, Timothy is very ill and unfortunately it is time to move to summer quarters before Farmer Fitzgibbon starts to plow his fields. Mrs. Frisby seeks help amongst her neighbors and is told by a wise owl to get help from the Rats. When Mrs. Frisby meets the rats, she discovers far more about them and her late husband than she had ever imagined. Will they be able to save Timothy before the plow comes?Daniel and I both greatly enjoyed the story as did Kile as well. We had to have a discussion about it after we all finished. I fell asleep one night and couldn’t read further so Daniel took the book and finished it himself that night, I had to catch up the next day to see how it ended! It was a great heroic tale of Mrs. Frisby and her love for her children, but the entire rats sequence was very intriguing. Daniel loved finding out where they came from, but was a bit stressed out about the more suspenseful parts of the novel. We still want to know who the mysterious two rats were in the end! I really liked the ambiguous ending and the questions of ethics and morality that permeated the story.Overall, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a wonderful fantasy novel that will delight readers of all ages.Book Source: The Kewaunee Pubic Library

I read this book for the first time in third grade (several decades ago), and it remains one of my favorite books of all time. I bought it as a gift for my nephew recently, but ended up re-reading it myself. I enjoyed it just as much as the first time I read it. I have such wonderful memories of this story! I read it in elementary school and it really stuck with me. My daughter loves to read (she's 8 but a bit advanced for her age) so I got this book for her. We decided to read it together-actually she read it to me. It was lovely to re-experience the story and to share it with her. I recommend it for advanced 3rd grade to normal 5th grade readers. Compelling but easy to follow story.

Saw this at my local bookstore and checked with Amazon.com and was happy to purchase it online for a substantial discount here. This book is great for anyone beginning to setup their own home theater and for those that really like to get into the meat of this hobby. The pages are easy to read with good, clear black and white photos spread throughout.What this book offers are those uncommon tips and tricks that big name electronics stores don't want you to know about. This book alone will save me hundreds of dollars from all the information provided inside. It's doesn't have too much techno-babble but it won't feel like a crash course booklet leaving you wanting more. Intelligently laid out and highly recommended.

I purchased this book to gain more knowledge of home theater and audio equipment. My expectation was that the book will cover those topics in great depth. However I found that this book covers a lot of basic stuffs ( a little too much for me). I would recommend this book if you have no clue about TV, audio or home theater. That's the reason I gave only three stars. It is sole based on my expectation.The book is greatly written and easy to understand.

Great for the nub who is just starting out, and has 10-15 pro hacks but is really getting out of date.

A little out of date at this time (HDMI is only mentioned in 1 definition as a standard), but lots of good details. Very good reference material for non-experts.

This book covers it all. Very well written and easy to understand. He covers everything from TV's to recievers, amps and speakers. A must for any home theater enthusiest.

Home Theater Hacks is the perfect book for anyone in the planning, building, or improvement phase of their home theater. This book really covers everything that has to do with a home theater: from selecting the right components, to component configuration, to cabling, to making your theater look awesome. This book is a must read before you start your home theater.The book begins with a very thorough and impressive discussion of how and where to buy home theater components. The author discusses receivers (both audio and video), DVD players, TVs (both HD and standard), as well as the ins and outs of buying online versus at a local store. This discussion naturally leads to a very large section on "configuration", which includes such things as how to install and configure a terrestrial television antenna, how to match your subwoofer to your room, and everything you ever wanted to know about cables. I particularly enjoyed the author's discussion of the modern myth of expensive cabling. He provides a very good explanation of what "good enough" means (you wouldn't put gold water pipes in your home, why spend $100 on a gold cable?).As mentioned, this is a very interesting and useful book for anyone planning or currently working on a home theater. It dispelled a lot of myths I had heard in the past, and provides clear explanations as to why many of these myths are false. Additionally, I found that the book provided sound advice in the purchase and configuration of home theater components.

Sometimes the Hacks books go a little too far. The iPod book for example spent eighteen pages on how to mold a new iPod console for your car. It would have been very easy for this book to go over that edge but it keeps it's focus and stays well within the realm of practical advice to enhance your home theater.The sections on how to enhance your projection TV is excellent and very practical. There is good coverage of speaker calibration, system maintenance, and TiVo. There is also good material on acoustic tremblers which will bring the experience really close to home.A must buy book for home theater enthusiasts. There is lots of material here that you can find on the web, but it's better organized, illustrated and explained here.
