The group of ladies I do a Bible study with chose this book for our most recent study. It has been great. We have found we need the participant's guide which is sold separately to get the most out of the study and to work through as a group. (It gives you something each day to do as well as helps you with working through the book.) I like how Lysa is honest and real which is how we all should be especially with ourselves if reading this book. It can really be a life changer if you let it. I think I'll probably need to reread it in the future as it's something I'll need to work on the rest of my life (and such is life as sinful humans trying to be more Christ-like).

Is it obvious what attracted me to this book besides the lack of cost? Unglued is easily a word I can use to describe myself. Being an organized, detailed person, who thinks ahead and puts much thought into everything, the littlest things will tick me off. And I don't mean, oh I'm getting mad. It's more like instant boiling anger in the form of yelling and iffy language. Yes, everyone has their moments, but mine were daily and concentrated on my husband and kids. For a long time I just did what I could because it didn't seem there was anything I could do, the raw emotion was so instantaneous.Then I read Unglued and TerKeurst's explanations of how people's emotions work stuck with me. I have a combination of two types she discusses. With my family I am what she calls an exploder. Exploders hold nothing back. But, I knew that wasn't all of it because with friends, even if I do get mad, I don't explode on them. The other half of my personality is what TerKeurst calls stuffer. I stuff all negative emotions when dealing with friends and acquaintances and ignore them for as long as possible. Eventually a stuffer's feelings will explode, but it usually takes time. I found that I would take my stuffed feelings home and explode there. Why we take advantage of the ones we love most is beyond me.Unglued talks about other types of people as well as the negative consequences of raw emotion that you might not see coming. It really opened my eyes and although I don't always think in time to stop myself, I realize as I begin to rant or stuff that I need to stop and think. This is absolutely progress for me - "imperfect progress" as TerKeurst would say, but still progress.

This book really got me to thinking ...here I am nearly 70 years old, and I am still becoming unglued...a lot. This book has given me the "vehicle to ride in" toward being my best self..to honor God with EVERYTHING I say and do. Also to accept the free gifts of grace and forgiveness that are promised to me. I wish I could have had this book as a young mother ! I gave a copy to my daughter ...in hopes she can avoid the slippery slope I have as much as on.

Great wisdom in this book- I took away a lot of information and hope to make my own imperfect progress.If you're struggling with becoming angry- bitter- jealous... unglued whether with kids, husband, co-worker etc... this book would be a great tool for you. Lysa always delivers some great books with helpful information. Changing my perspective and having a plan ahead of time to know how I'm going to react is my goal. Thanks Lysa!

This book is not just good, it's LIFE CHANGING fantastic. She hits the nail on the head and it's such a relief to know that someone else totally gets it. It's not about being perfect overnight or even at all, it's about making imperfect progress. Love.

I must admit, the only reason I bought this book was because it was .99 on Kindle. At the time of purchasing, I had just started reading The Best Yes. Typically, I have a few books going at one time with several on my nightstand and hundreds on my “to read” list. I began Unglued and was very eager to relate with Lysa like I had while devouring The Best Yes. Yes, Unglued was a great read, and I found myself relating to many of the circumstances that TerKeust describes; however, the book was full of her being angry at friends, family members, strangers, etc., with no actual solutions to managing meltdowns.I continued to read, because if I start something, especially if I pay for it, I will finish it. I even sat it down for a couple weeks. Finally, I picked it back up and continued to read. Perhaps it was because I needed a Lysa break or maybe the second part of the book is better, but when I began reading for the second time, I quickly finished the book in two settings.My biggest takeaway from Unglued is that these moments are opportunities to expand, grow, and extend our grace toward others. In addition, it is okay to be broken as long as we turn toward scripture and lean on God’s promises.

The way Lysa writes makes you feel like you are actual sitting down with a friend and talking about this shred struggle. She is kind, encouraging and thoughtful. She shares her struggle so you feel safe to say "yes me too!" And not feel like a failure for having those struggles, but instead feel human and normal.I love this book!!I cannot recommend this highly enough, and wish everyone would read it. This looks like a good book but I mistakenly bought the old version. I thought I would write this review to prevent anyone else from making the same error. It was only 1 cent plus 3.99 shipping so it is not worth returning.

A ~1400 page book chock full of good information and Access 2.0 application development and Access Basic coding. I've used at least 2 full Post-It tape flag boxes in marking the important sections of my book with colored tabs. This book covers everything from SQL syntax to interface development and writing run-time applications. This is truly a must have book for the Access developer

If you are looking for an introductory book on Access 2.0, this is not that book. Use the MS manual and the F1 key. A lot. But once you have a basic understanding, and want to build a 'good' app, don't start without this book. If you believe that code can be beautiful and elegant you'll appreciate the book even more. The samples and examples on the accompanying disk will save you much more than the price of the book. And you'll learn a ton in the process.

I bought the Access 95 version of this book, and later was forced to buy the book to study a particular Access 2 feature.I was struck by how much value the book adds. To me, this is more of an in-depth introduction to Access development than any book outside the "Building Applications" manual. It far surpasses that manual in terms of explanation and samples.

I loved the snippets of obituaries and most of the recipes were great. I wasn't expecting gentrified versions of the funeral food I experienced in the past but there were a number of recipes that certainly brought back memories as well as some that were new to me. I'm using a couple of them next weekend - though not for the bereaved.

I am from the south and this cookbook hits the nail on the head! Food is such a big part of our grieving process and I am glad to see some new twist on the comfort food I normally make for these type of occasions. I tired the Hot Brown Casserole (which was a new one for me) and it was amazing!

I love funeral food, really who doesn't. I bought this book mostly because as a Southerner I could relate to the ritual of my mom having to get food to a family when someone died. I didn't really expect it to be so full of great recipes. Many of my favorites are included, along with many more that i can't wait to try. The author must really be a great cook! If you are a Southerner get this, I'm going to buy a few more for gifts for friends.

I'm sorry to say this attractive cookbook is unfocused and unimpressive, especially compared to author Perre Coleman Magness' wonderful prior cookbook, PIMENTO CHEESE: THE COOKBOOK. Her SOUTHERN SYMPATHY COOKBOOK is supposed to be a fusion of Southern funeral wit and the kind of recipes people would bring to the house of the bereaved. The wit is rather sketchy and frankly, there aren't a heck of a lot of recipes in the book given its size. Too many recipes here are in the "show-off" category, which the author frankly admits are designed not only to feed the mourners but to highlight how sophisticated and trendy the cooks themselves are. I'm not sure why this book includes a "Hot Brown Sandwich" recipe that makes such large quantities, or why anyone would go to so much trouble to prepare the spaghetti casserole here, when it basically turns out to be red sauce over pasta.I am most mystified as to why a confirmed master of the Pimento Cheese genre like Magness would make her one pimento cheese recipe in this book with bourbon! It is my studied opinion that comfort food, like funerary rituals in general, should be on the traditional side and not designed to show off how sophisticated the cook/donor is. (I am not rigid about this; my first taste of seven-layer dip came from a neighbor's donation in memory of my grandmother; but bourbon in pimento cheese? Why?). I'd advise leaving this one alone.

I've had this on my books to purchase list for a long time and found it on Amazon at a good price, it's a soft-bound book, I've enjoyed reading and trying some of the recipes, I haven't made anything I don't like yet, it has standard go-to recipes that appear to be tried and true, there are funny obituary snippets here and there which add to the book. I'm glad I bought it, it was well worth it.

I didn't care for this book. Standard recipes we all know already. Some seemed altered and not in a good way. I bought the book for stories. There are not any

Cute book- you know it's good when the introduction starts with a quote from To Kill a Mockingbird!

Many familiar recipes and some new to me. Will enjoy trying them out for potlucks, etc.

Salvatore Settis is an archaeologist and art historian who has directed the Getty Research Institute of Los Angeles and the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa. What an incredible book; if you care about the future of Venice, you must read this book. We have traveled with small groups in Venice for more than twelve years. We have seen an erosion in the infrastructure of the city-in its ability to support the literal and actual weight of hundreds of thousands of cruise passengers on the city. This has got to stop. Please read this book and learn!

This review is based on a pre-publication copy of the book. By Bill Marsano. Salvatore Settis comes to this book exceedingly well-credentialed: he is the author of books on art history, is an archeologist, and is former director of Los Angeles’s Getty Research Institute and Pisa’s Scuola Normale Superiore. And what he has produced here is an extended meditation on the future of cities in general and Venice in particular. It is sometimes an angry meditation but always a passionate and penetrating one. What, he asks, is the future of a city that has lost its soul? This is no mere rhetorical posturing; Settis makes it clear what loss of soul means: shrinking population (Venice has lost far more than half its people since 1961); inadequate employment (beyond tourism jobs), which drives people out of the city; loss of nearly all industry besides tourism; shortage of housing due to the growing number of residences converted to second homes for rich people who leave them vacant for most of the year; loss of urban memory—the memory of its importance, history and accomplishments--in a city that has become a mere vacation destination for both the wealthy and the hordes of one-day tourists spilling out of cruise ships that are bigger and more densely populated that any physical structure in Venice. Does that describe Venice? Yes, and it equally describes Disneyland. Would you call Disneyland a city? Does a city have citizens, or merely customers? When we hear of plans to ‘save’ Venice we think of sinking squares and deteriorating structures, but in fact Venice’s saviors have only destructive ideas to put forth. Pierre Cardin has proposed at 820-foot skyscraper in mainland Marghera, only two miles away; others have proposed a ring of skyscrapers that would surround the city, reducing Venice to a decorative object; and building, on an island in the Giudecca Canal, Veniceland—yes, a Venice theme park actually IN Venice, complete with the usual touch-screen ‘educational’ displays, historic re-enactments and, of course, a gigantic Ferris wheel. It is one thing to ‘save’ Venice with anti-flood barriers and quite another to save it by ‘re-thinking’ it or ‘re-branding’ it, or by holding international competitions to design Venice’s new logo. These, Settis points out, are merely are rapacious profit scheme who object is no more than to extract the maximum from Venice’s value as real estate. That much is certain. Less certain is the method by which actual living citizens will be restored to the physical city of La Serenissima, desperate as her need may be. —Bill Marsano is a writer, editor and long –time lover of Venice, whose canals he paddles in his kayak whenever possible.

This book is well edited and does a good job of explaining an area of the law that is nearly unexplainable.

I've used this book in my Election Law class, both as a student and now as a law professor. I've found it extremely thorough in all respects. It accumulates every major piece of scholarship and case, no small feat, in its pages. It is nicely organized and structure with a natural flow, opening with the right to vote, carrying through the practical administration of elections, and concluding with campaign finance issues. My students have found it quite readable. And, best of all, it's about half the price of a typical legal casebook.

I've taught out of this excellent coursebook in recent years and am happy with it. It offers a broad survey of election law by editors who are thoroughly knowledgeable in the field. They present many of the relevant cases and authorities in the form of concisely written notes, making the length of the readings manageable for students and instructors alike. The editors’ comments on election law are fairminded, sophisticated, and well documented. Moreover, the book’s extensive references to political science literature illuminate many of the empirical realities that underlie the doctrinal controversies. The editors also publish regular updates in order to keep up with the latest trends in this rapidly evolving field. The book is especially strong in its coverage of election administration and the role of money in politics, including bribery and campaign finance regulation. All told, I would recommend the book highly to any potential instructor who is interested in breaking into the election law field. And it would make a good research reference for others as well.

This is one of the best casebooks in election law. It surveys the field broadly and authoritatively. The cases in it are nicely presented and superbly edited, and the notes following them succinctly summarize the important debates in the field. This casebook also uniquely devotes five entire chapters to campaign finance, giving that topic a seriousness and depth that no other publication can match. Campaign finance is the most important topic in American politics today. It is hard to imagine anyone ever treating its nuances and complexities as superbly as the authors of this book do.

I have taught law for almost 15 years, and this is the best casebook I have ever used. Not just the best Election Law casebook, but the best casebook on any subject. It is exceptionally well organized, very "teachable", and carefully re-edited for each new edition. Supplements are timely, and the authors are great about supporting faculty using the book. I highly recommend it.

This excellent book surveys the field of election law. The cases have been edited carefully, and the authors' notes are concise, thoughtful, and (rare for a casebook) helpful to students and teachers alike. I have taught from this book many times, and my students and I are always happy with it.

This ebook would get five stars if it had the option for PAGE NUMBERS. That's right folks, you wouldn't know it unless you bought it but it's true!Why amazon would offer a TEXTBOOK without page numbers is beyond me.
