Used it for research on a restoration. Excellent rare photos.

Ludvigsen's first book on the 550 Porsche Spyder was much better documented with the evolution of the 550 both historically & technically.Lip service paid only to 550A with only a very few photos - none of car from the rear or cockpit/dash. No indication of number made etc. The Porsche Spyder RSK never showed "k" torsion bar front end, Never indicated how 718 differed from RSK, never indicated production numbers of the numerous variants with 4 cylinder & 8 cylinder. The whole book appeared to be hastily put together and really did not come close to his informative Porsche 550 Spyder Book in sum or substance and subsequently not worth the wait or the money.

I purchased this book because I first saw a Spyder race in Marlboro, MD in 1960 and I have followed them since. I have started to build a copy of a 1960 RS60 and this book is invaluable in giving me the details of the interior.

Porsche Spyders 1956-1964 is an excellent book. The archival photos beautiful and very well selected. The accompaning text is very detailed and well matched to the photos for illustrative purposes. In this regard, the book exceeded expectations because it is intended to be a collection of rare photos of the stunning 718 Spyder.

This novel was so brilliant and so moving. It is one of those books that take my breath away after I’ve finished it. I had to follow it up with something from another genre so as to not compare and be disappointed by a book I might normally love had it not had the bad luck to follow this amazing novel. Told from the perspective of three kids using first, second, and third person perspective was unique and perfect, the story so moving and heartbreaking. Even though it is March, I already know this will be a top 5 book for my 2018 reads.

I love Tayari Jones; this is the second book of hers that I've read, and it is excellent. The story is about the impact of the Atlanta child murders and is told from the perspective of several elementary school children who are living in Atlanta during that time. Jones has a great style and is a pleasure to read.

This book was so well written. I am thoroughly impressed with the use of three different POVs in this story. Very effective. A fictional story based around a true situation that happened in Atlanta. This is a must read. You won't be disappointed.

I helped raise three daughters. As their dad, I seldom understood them. I love them and they have all grown to be good successful women. Mostly, because they understood me. Thanks to this book understand them better. Also I've rid myself of the illogical prejudices I've held for years.Thanks for opening my eyes.

Good book bringing back memories of a very tragic part of American history that you don't hear about. I would have liked more information about the case, but that wasn't this book's purpose. It has, however, spurred my interest into finding out what the resolution and the aftermath of this tragedy was.

You never think that tragedies you see on tv can actually happen to or if you do, you still can't picture it. This took me into the the homes of a completely different world from my own and I felt what it must be like to be an African American child going through something so horrendous! I truly adored the character development and I'm sad that it ended. I would have happily read from everyone's perspective, especially an adult.

I found this book to be extremely interesting. I am however struggling if it was more interesting to me because although I did not live in Atlanta (many states away), I remember being highly impacted by the situation during those years. I found myself relating with the terror described in this book, as I was certainly that young person who felt terrified during this time-frame. I also understood the adults in the book, as many of my community activist, teachers, and parents formed new networks of getting children to and from locations (especially school) safely.I enjoyed the different characters that the author introduced in the story....her description of how children play together, poverty at that time, peer pressure, and just her dynamic use of narration, made this book an awesome read. You will find many high and low points of the book, but they are all understandable even if you are not from an urban setting. The author was on point with her setting and describing the key things that were popular during that time. I hope that others who do not remember many of these things (much younger audience), find the book as interesting and riveting as I did. I am looking at other works by this author.

I am so happy that I discovered this author. She is great. I read, An American Marriage and Now just finished Leaving Atlanta. I so enjoy her books. She draws you into the book, the pages, the story! This is a well written story of a professional man who is also a compulsive gambler. My issues with the story is that at a short 138 pages (Amazon says the book is 250 pages but there are only 104 pages of story and 34 more pages of index, etc.)I feel lots of important details were left out, such as explaining the breaking point the author reached which caused him to turn himself in. Also, the author states that one of the reasons he wrote the book was to try to raise some restitution money for the embezzlement victims, which might possibly explain the list price of $29.95 for a 138 page paperback book.

I wasn't searching for this particular book or any addition related books in amazon. Encountered it by chance and got interested after reading the reviews. I received it yesterday by mail and read it all in a couple of hours.Some good things about the book.1. It is composed of only 100 pages, small and crisp.2. It is a real life story.3. Clearly explains how one becomes an addict and what they do to hide that addiction.My observance about this book is that, though it is about gambling you can correlate many a things/situations to any sort of addiction. Gambling being one of the types. Addiction could be as widely known as from drugs, alcohol or gambling to as far as travel, food etc.I feel the biggest take away from this book which will help anyone who is addicted to anything to get away from that addiction is a quote from the book"The only solution is to take it one day at a time and always do the next right thing"

I would not give this book 4 or 5 stars. I think there is something up with these 5 stars. We are reading a book about a lawyer who was a compulsive gambler who stole millions from clients. Is it that unreasonable to think he had some friends and family write 5 star reviews? I dont know it for sure so I dont want to accuse anybody but here is the real deal.The book is 138 pages total. The story before the epilogue and index ends at 104 pages.One thing that he did was paste letter's from family and friends which took up tons and tons of room in the book. All in all this book is about 65-75 pages of story.I think it was a sad book because the man lost everything but I was hoping for some more details. Give me some more insight on what happened. There had to be some "crazy" nights. I have had some myself and I am far from a big time gambler.My favorite part of the whole book was after he hit a jackpot and one of the workers whispered in his ear " Remeber Mike, it is never enough".

Wow - this book was an eye opener! Really appreciate the author's candid experience. The title really sums up gambling, or any addiction actually. This book was very helpful and inspiring. This could not have been easy to share but I appreciate Mr. Burke's candor.

Interesting story but would have appreciated more about what helps him not gamble anymore. Seems to be just being on the circuit.

book is too short to be worth what I paid. Actually it is advertised as 250 pages but has only 138.

I can relate to Mr Burke. I grew up in a home of a compulsive gambler and many years later (recent years)struggled with my own compulsive gambling addiction. This work wil touch you and open your eyes to the reality of this devastating disease. It has helped me to know there is life after gambling. When you start reading you won't be able to put it down.

It's written from the direct voice of the author, not some conglomerate of anonymous writers, and you'll enjoy reading about his personal experience visiting this beautiful country many times since the late 70s.So the greatest strength of this book is its personality. It's like having direct recommendations from a friend.However, if you try to rely on this book as your source of information on Tahiti you will have missed many important facts, as the guide skips many restaurants, hotels, and activities. Also it only covers the main islands that most people are realistically going to visit.The Kindle version of this book is excellent and the maps are pretty decent but fairly basic. The better maps are in the Lonely Planet. The Moon guide is the most complete one with the most information.If you're serious about Tahiti I would recommend you to purchase all three books. It will cost you less than just dinner without drinks at an average restaurant in Tahiti and you'll be armed for success! However if you just want to get one book I would get the Moon guide instead.

Frommer's Guide was current and accurate.Restaurants, bars and cafes were open and very much as described.Currency conversions were accurate.Common Language, stuff to do, where to find stuff, who to ask... Everything right off the page.Third day into the trip we were so giddy shouting, "Where's the FromMersch???"It started becoming a hunt for something Frommer's didn't have.. (There wasn't anything,)Any trip I take, I will be getting a Frommer's to guide me.Could not have been more detailed or useful.

It appears this is the first edition of the Tahiti and French Polynesia guide, and the only version I could find on Amazon was the Portable version. Maybe a more full version will come out in the future, but for now I just picked up the portable. We're planning our honeymoon to Tahiti, and the book has been invaluable in doing so. You can kind of tell it's a first edition though -- there are even some typos I've come across! Also, there is definitely a lot less information than other guides I've used from Frommer's, but I'm guessing that is the point of the "Portable" line of guides to keep them more travel-sized. Some of the information is a little outdated (already!), but using it as a starting point allows you to take what you learn from there and do the rest of the research online. For example, the exchange rate between XPF & USD is already off by about 10% (not in the favor of the USD), and the Sofitel Moorea they speak of was closed through all of 2006 for renovations, making me think even though this is a first edition, the information was put together in 2005 at the latest because there is no mention of the renovation -- and the hotel would obviously need to be re-evaluated by Frommer's after re-opening.All in all though, there are some great money saving tips, a lot of information about places to eat, foods to try and sights to see, all in one portable book that we will definitely be taking with us when we go in July. Can't wait! Thanks, Frommer's for helping us save money by planning this ourselves instead of enlisting the help of a travel agent.

Finding this book in Dallas at a major bookstore was next to impossible.Seems like there is little demand for books on the South Pacific. This may be due to expensive airfare to the area and lack of crusie ships traveling in those waters. The book contains the regular Frommer sections and much of it we have "tossed" since we are traveling on a cruise ship. Dining out, hotels, ect. won't be of much use. When I searched various web sites I did not find a lot of great information. This book at least puts the reader in touch with what's worth seeing in Tahati, Moorea and Bora Bora---these are stops our ship will make.The book has a copyright date of 2007 and the sites discussed throughout the book won't be changeing.We found the reading and recommedations to be good. Now we just have to see how accurate they are when we visit. If you are traveling to French Polynesia, this is the best book we have been able to locate. Hotel and dining prices are changeing so rapidly throughout the world I would personally not count of the book prices as being up to date.

Great travel guide

It lacked a lot of information I would have liked to have had about local businesses and people. I was very disappointed with this issue of Frommers

Purchased the kindle edition during a 5 week visit to French Polynesia. Although its clear the author has visited the islands, we found the information in the book to be quite high level and not giving us much information we had not been able to find out ourselves from simply being at the location. We found Lonely Planet to be more informative in terms of recommending more off the beaten path restaurants, hotels, etc.

I see some people complain about how short this book is. I think that’s the beauty of it. It gets to the point in terms that new investors or people who find investing confusing could understand. I bought a copy for my young adult children. At that age, there’s no way I would have sat down and read a book like The Bogleheads Guide to Investing (another excellent book). I have friends on the verge of retiring and they are paralyzed with the thought of what to do with their money. This would be any excellent book for them as well. I went from an advisor who had me in 21 different funds and charged 1% plus the expense ratio of the fund, to 3 fund portfolio that even I can manage on my own. I highly recommend this book.

Taylor Larimore is affectionately known as the King of the Bogleheads, he has a lifetime of experience and made all the mistakes along the way so we don't have to. Taylor was born in 1924 so needless to say, he has a huge arsenal of experience that will benefit every person who aspires to have wealth in their retirement years and for those in the accumulation phase who want to build wealth along the way. He has read hundreds of books and has tried what works and what doesn't (in short, Taylor did all the work for us). Along the way, Taylor befriend John "Jack" Bogle who is a living legend in the investment world and beyond. Jack and Taylor are definitely cut from the same cloth. They both are selfless people who rather benefit society than enrich themselves. Although Jack Bogle has more wealth than most of us will ever have, if he decided to take profits from Vanguard, he will probably be one of the richest people in the world along with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, but instead, Jack decided to structure Vanguard in such a way that the profits came back to us average folks. Taylor realized how much he gained from Jack's creation (the "Index Fund") and calls his home in Miami "The House that Jack Built". Taylor is one of us. A working man who accomplished many success in his life and throughout his working years, saved enough to retire without worry due to the 3 fund portfolio. Taylor's 3 fund portfolio will work at any wealth level and the simple but elegant solution will give you a worry free investment life and a worry-free retirement. Imagine not having to worry about retirement in your golden years. Once you get the message of the 3 fund portfolio, you will be able to ignore the stock market and get on with your life. For those of us (including myself) who really hate long winded investment books that give the average retail investor too much information and not enough real life action steps, fear not, Taylor gave us a ton of information in a small and readable book. It is exactly what the average person needs to become a successful investor without needing a business degree to get through it. I have read three of the Boglehead books- I especially like the Boglehead's Guide to Investing...Several friends need to read the Guide to Investing - They have large retirement accounts, are endlessly frugal and yet witlessly squander their retirement on a high-fee financial planner. I've tried to get them to read it, but most have no interest in investing; their eyes glaze over at the thought of 200 or so pages. Hopefully this simplified version will be more palatable. I mourn in silence every time someone gleefully tells me that they have just bought a fantastic annuity with their life's savings...

An excellent explanation of how a simple index fund portfolio outperforms most investors with less risk. It is compelling, concise, and to the point. The author presents an iron clad case for the Three Fund Portfolio (3FP) which I have personally implemented for myself. This book backs up everything I have learned about the 3FP and more! Taylor Larimore is to be complimented for presenting the material in a short, simple, and understandable format. Those just starting out and seasoned investors alike will love this book.

I have been using a two-fund US portfolio with the Dollar-Cost-Averaging strategy since the late 1980's: Vanguard 500 Index fund and Vanguard GNMA fund. The book, "Value Averaging", by Micheal Edleson, illustrates the viability of the buy-and-hold value averaging strategy using Monte Carlo Simulation, which I adopted since the early 1990's.Bogleheads' three-fund portfolio is broader with less risk than my two-fund US portfolio. I bought one copy each of this book for my nieces and nephews especially because this book is short and sweet and right to the point for the impatient millenniums. Hope they will enjoy their retirement just like I am enjoying mine now!

The book is short and simple, but as we know that is the master key. If you're an experience investor you may not learn something new but its worth a refresher and reassurance that you're still on the right track. This is a great addition to the Bogleheads series of investment books, and a book I will lend out for others to enjoy and read again myself.

Good book that describes the Three-Fund Portfolio in a clear concise manner. People will be put off by how short this book is, but I think they also will be the types that will not implement the strategy because it is too easy.

I'm a nurse and this book is as good as it get. For home, office, and homework you can use it to give to doctors for reference. You can take it to your doctor visits and discuss your symptoms with the doctor. The pictures are remarkable and you are able to see and understand and pinpoint what's going on with your health.

I had an older version. In my openion this is very complete refferance & help, even if it is the latest version (1994)

Everyone should have a medical reference book at home (especially if you have kids), and this is a good one.There are several things that I like about the book. First, there is a "self-diagnosis" chart section in the front. If you have a bad headache, stiff neck, sick stomach, etc, you can go through the flowchart and get an idea of what might be wrong. This is not to replace a doctor's diagnosis, but it really helps me determine if I'm being overly-concerned or if I should see a doctor. I definitely use that section of the book.There are also sections of the different systems of the body that include descriptions of diseases. A little while back I was having problems with my digestive system. It really helped to read the section on colitis and Crohn's disease to understand more about them so that when my doctor discussed them, I could better understand him.There are also sections on First Aide, caregiving at home, selecting physicians, and even a section on terminal illness and death. Though those last few items are things we don't really want to think about, there is information about how to handle making arrangements and whatever else needs to be done.There is also a drug dictionary in the back which can come in handy, plus a medical glossary.Overall, I'm glad that I added this book to my library. It has an abundance of useful information about illness and medicine. I do have another medical reference guide as well, but it's not nearly this comprehensive. I think everyone should have a book like this on their shelves.

Okay, I'm not a hypochondriac, sorry. My mother purchased an earlier edition of this book, published in 1982. I had that edition until I recently ordered this one to replace it.I should preface the rest of my review by saying that I have a definite interest in medicine, and planned to become a paramedic. I did take my EMT-B certification (Emergency Medical Techinician-Basic) a few years ago, and this book was one of my resources for studying for tests and answering homework questions. So, I have a clear INTEREST in all things medical, and really enjoy just browsing through this book.I find that I look things up in this book at least once a week. Sometimes I'll hear the name of a disease or illness on TV and out of curiousity to know more, I'll look it up. If I have a strange symptom, I'll look that up. I am single with no children, but this book would be an invaluable first-aid resource for a family with children or for anyone taking care of a sick or elderly friend or family member.My favorite aspects of this book are the glossary of medical terms, the very complete and easy-to-use index, and the medication section. Several times I have looked up a medication to determine if it is safe to take with other medications, or to see if side effects are normal.I think every household should have a copy of this book. Most of the information is timeless and very informative.

This should be required reading for anyone who plans to retire one day (EVERYONE!). Matt is the expert in this area and his book simplifies the process and shows the advantages of self directing your IRA. He also works to keep readers on the right side of the rules. After reading the book I decided to move my SDIRA to his new trust company (DirectedIRA). I hope you get as much out of it as I did. I’m investing in metals and real estate and feel much safer than being in the market.

I highly recommend reading this book, followed by going over the articles on Mat's blog: sdirahandbook.com. Finally, I found it well worth setting up an hour consultation with Mat's law firm, kkoslawyers.com, to go over specific questions for my case. I believe there's a typo in the book: Section “DIAGRAM 11.1, WHEN CAN AN IRA INVEST INTO A PRIVATECOMPANY?” page 263, the diagram shows that if a specific seller ofshares is NOT a disqualified person, the IRA can’t invest. Also, ifdisqualified persons DON’T own 50% or more of the company, the IRAcan’t invest. I believe this should be reversed. When the person is disqualified, the IRA can't invest.

This book is awesome! Anyone studying or consider themselves well versed in self-directed IRA's should get this book. There are numerous rulings on tax court cases that will help you stay away from prohibited transactions or self-dealings. This book is more like a reference book. You can start with any chapter. I highly recommend.

It is really hard to find a good CPA who can able to guide through the various tax strategies for a small business owner without breaking their bank!I was familiar with SDIRA and real estate investment through it. When I tried to understand the solo 401(k) it was not that easy.This book help clarify the inner working of the solo 401(k). Each major aspect of the strategy is well illustrated through flow chart that is easy to grasp and implement.
